FRIM Fun in the Sun!

In FRIM, an activity we had to complete was based on The Hunger Games (Suzanne Collins) . In this activity, we needed to find a good area to camp and needed to get supplies to survive. The supplies we needed were tarp, flint, sleeping bag, first aid kit and a compass. Sometimes when the supplies were taken, my group improvised and tried to make use of the other supplies left. After we set up our camp, we needed to impress other Districts. In order to do this we could sing or dance to impress them to give us gifts. We created a vocal and physical song. One of the tributes made up the song and I danced to it. This little chant got us a Laser Mirror and a Metal Wire Cutter. I liked FRIM because we had smores, played capture the flag and slept in tents with friends. I liked it because it was a new experience for me. I didn't like the showers because they were too cold and I was practically paranoid of leeches.

The Black Mark (short story)

1. I would call this story The Black Dot because the black dot decides if a person lives or not.

2. I thought that whoever got the black dot would be kicked out of the town because all the people were scared when their husbands or sons went to pick out a slip.

3. When I didn't know the end I felt anxious and impatient to find out what happened.

4.I felt scared when I got the paper because it had a black dot. I thought that the end was inside but not the questions. I did follow the questions because I opened it at home like I was supposed to.

5. When I got the black spot, I felt scared because the lady in the story seemed scared.

6. I felt intimidated because I thought that something would happen to me like what happened to Mrs. Hutchinson but not as bad as being killed.

7. No, My prediction was incorrect because they get killed instead of moved away. I felt a bit disappointed because I got the answer wrong and I was hoping to get it right.

8.I think that more explanation of the town and where it takes place. If I had a better understanding of the setting I might have guessed better.

9. I think left some voids because the author was trying to send a message that many ancient traditions are still practiced today even though they could be cruel.

10(a. The power of having no title might have made readers want to read more and more to figure out what the story is about. This had a big effect on me because it encouraged me to continue reading the story.

b. Having no ending had enough power to make the audience anxious to read the ending. I think this is a great way to hook the readers to your story.

c. Foreshadowing contributed to the stories brilliance because it matched the grim mood perfectly. The clues in the writing like the way the author didn't have much humor told the audience that it was a serious topic and that something bad was going to happen that day.

d. I think receiving the mystery paper represented the people's imprisonment of their choice to live or die. It caught me by surprise when I realized this because it is depressing to lose a loved on in such away.

e. The missing ending was a another great way addict a reader like me. It triggered the curiosity of readers and needed a huge distraction to peel the eyes of the readers off the book. This is what completed the story in my opinion.

f. I think that the expressions on the faces of the residents explained the alarm that hung in the air. I felt that something bad would happen soon to someone because I read the expressions that way.

Me, A Gestalt Learner

I think I learn best when I see pictures and I get them explained to me. I think that if I see more pictures, I will understand things better as I am a visual learner. I think I need to learn without pictures so I can be a better student. This could help me in situations without pictures on future tests or projects. The strategies I use are being an active (physical) learner like acting in Drama. It helps me remember that we did something fun one day and I remember the facts we acted or played a game on. I think the teachers should know that I absolutely cannot write a test in a tight space because i need space for me to breath and put my arms somewhere so that I can focus on whatever the test asks.
