Experiencing Other Religions

Chinese Temples

In these temples, the environment was peaceful and calm, while the believers walk from flame to flame, lighting up their incense sticks. It was very warm and filled with haze from the burning of sticks. The designs told everyone inside the temple, that it was Chinese. With sacred writings on the walls it really felt like a holy place. Most people were praying, others were selling the incense sticks and fortune telling. People prayed by lighting incense sticks and waving them around in front of the statues. After waving the sticks and saying a few words, they place them into a pot of sand, leaving the sticks smoking.

Hindu Temples

The environment in this temple was very relaxing. It smelt of incense and offerings to the Gods. It was quiet and felt like a holy place. The God worshiped in the temple was Ganesh. The Hindus in the temple were praying and going to the Gods to give offerings. A priest was always around Ganesh's deity. Pictures and paintings of the Gods and Goddesses were lined up on the wall like statues morphed into the wall. Architecture in the temple reminded me of the Hindu paintings I see in Indian restaurants.
